Calgary! It is awesome!

Well, there is so little time for blogging over here. In the evening my body gives me strong signs of disagreements about me still being awake. This 8 hours timedifference is more present then I could imagine in Holland.

The flight was easy. In the plain to Canada i could choose out of 40 movies and I picked “…..to be single”. An easy positive feelgood movie. And what a amazing coïncidence: at the very end you see her reading “Wild”, just a glamp. And the last shot is her, solohiking in the mountains with a (not so big) rucksack and a nice quote of finally blablabla herself. She is about 25.

At the airport in Calgary they gave me the keys of a VW Golf. Of course an automatic. No Ford Ka as I ordered. Owh oké…when I sat in car i had no clue how to start it. My head was blank. I had to ask a nice person to explain me how it worked. And there I drove to the first hotel, still in Calgary, in a car who actually goes forward when you push the pedal.

Next day to Canmore, I checked in in a friendly B&B and saw my first wild animal.

It was a day of doing shopping for al my trailfood, gazz, bearspray, afterbite, azaron, prikweg as much as I could get because the Canadian musquito’s also like me. Not much time left for a first lowlevel walk to get used to the hight.

Minnawanka Lake

It is véry crowded in Banff…I spend too much time in the car in queues. And a parkingfine the first day. Who cares about $55 anymore? When I got home I only could sleep!

In the morning scedule was calling.

I made my 3 kilo food for my first 5-days-backpacktrail. It looks very organised, not? Breakfast, lunch and dinners, yammie! No wine, no candy’s or cookies, no snacks….

Thats why i started only so late for the first serious hike. It was tough this first one. Watch the gradient!

I climbed 1000 metres, my heart was beating too fast to burn fat I am afraid.

I was so lucky they only recommanded, I couldn’t bear $5000 now. I am still on my own. The bearspray was in my rucksack…pfff..next time i will put it on my belt…maybe.

It took me 3 hours to get on the top of Fairview Mountain. Deep down there was Lake Louise. Only Iphone photo’s for now.

Friend at the top. And a lot of wind. I felt extremely happy!

Tomorrow morning off for 5 days,  The Berglake Trail. No wifi for sure.
